Scrapbook paper as a mood lifter

I have to admit that I haven’t been doing much photography lately.  I’m enjoying my paper crafting projects so much and the rest of my time has been filled with family stuff.  I have a few more word projects in the works now that I ventured to a scrapbook paper store a half hour away from me.  Oh so fun!

In fact, whenever I am feeling a little low or tired, I have only to flip through my stock of luscious papers and I instantly feel better.  You scrapbookers out there know what I mean, I’m sure.  It’s such a luxury to get to play with all the little doodads and embellishments as we create, isn’t it?

Let me know what you think in the comments.  In case you missed it, JOY is finished and in the shop ready for purchase.  And happy weekend!

Since you were fabulously encouraging in your comments about my CREATE canvas, I got overly giddy and thought of loads of new word options. Stay tuned for lots of fun options. Oh, it’s going to be so awesome!!!!! For now, four JOY canvases have been assembled and are ready for viewing in the shop. Crafting them was fun… I bopped around to music and a few hours later… done! Each one is one-of-a-kind, so hurry over and get the one you want most for your Christmas decorating. If you have other special requests, I’m all ears.

CREATE

Somewhere a while back I was looking for some craft room inspiration and I found a bunch of links to other people’s create spaces.  I wish I could remember specifically who it was, but one of the ladies had worked with her husband to turn their garage into an amazing workshop.  Above the door was a sign that said CREATE in bold black letters with a different primary color behind each letter, all mounted on wood.  She said she saw it in a shop and just had to have it for her new space.  Well, I started out planning to recreate that, but then I got sidetracked, yet again, by my paper addiction.  I collaged various papers onto each 9″ chipboard letter and sealed them with Golden matte gel.

This blue paper (and also the flowers in the middle of the “E”) is from a few 6×6 pages designed by Christy Tomlinson.  I love the “she knew she could” message.

I was incredibly happy with the letters, but the 12×36 canvas looked so dull in white…

… so I jazzed it up a bit.  (I used Blick Violet Deep matte acrylic, Golden Ultramarine Violet, Carbon Black, and Cerulean Blue Deep fluid acrylics.)

I adhered the letters to the dry canvas with E6000, which has so many precautions listed on the back that I opened all the windows and barred my daughter from the room.  Still, when I lifted the canvas, it was heavy and one of the letters came off.  Urgh.  So I set about “mod podging” as many of the gaps as I could, going around each of the letters to seal them down.

Well, it seemed like a good idea to me since it dries clear, but I could still see it and it would drive me crazy if I looked at this sign multiple times a day and only saw it’s flaws, so I covered the entire thing with another coat of Mod Podge matte and let it dry.  Ta da!

Before and after:

Tell me… If I made a few gold, white, red, and green ones that say “JOY,” would you be interested in purchasing one for your holiday decorations? I hope so because I kind of already started…

What other words would you be interested in?

OLW December 1 blog hop

I know I say this every month, but…

How on earth is it December already? It’s time for a One Little Word update! My word for 2012 is MINDFUL.  It’s pretty self-explanatory this month, I hope.  I’ve been working on some art projects and scrapbooking so I didn’t devote much time to this month’s assignment.  Se la vie, I guess! I did make this lovely heart hanging at our pottery place with my daughter though.

 * * * * *

Our bloghop started off in January with loads of participants and now there are not many of us, which I find pretty funny.  If it weren’t for this group, I probably would forget to do my monthly projects! Some of the artwork these ladies do is just incredible! The rest of the participants for this month are listed below.  I encourage you to visit them for more creative fun.

You can read other posts related to my OLW here.   I look forward to visiting again with you on Monday!
