Happy anniversary to me!

“If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.” ~ Joseph Campbell

Sunday marks the 6 month anniversary of Poetic Aperture.  I was just e-mailing with a friend about how I decided to start my blog.  We were talking about how it’s sort of self-serving to assume that people would be interested in reading your personal thoughts and opinions and how to overcome that.  I remembered that I started this blog as a way forward in pursuing publishing opportunities (otherwise I would have made it a private blog) but mainly for my own record of growth.  I never thought I’d have complete strangers subscribe.  I never thought it would lead me to expand my photography.  I never thought I would make new friends and connections online.  I never thought it would steer me into exploring a photography business.  Who knows where else it’s going to lead?

My online friends from my writing and photography classes have filled a void for me in my life.  It’s a creative connection that has surprisingly spilled over into my “real” life.  It’s such a blessing to have friends of all types who “get” me, laugh with me, share their stories with me, and who are genuinely interested in how I’m doing.  Knowing them, I feel more confidence on a daily basis, more full of love and connection.  I love reading their blogs.  Since there are days that I don’t get to see or talk with a friend, a Facebook update or a heartfelt e-mail from one of these ladies brightens my day immensely.  If blogging were around when I was a teenager, I wonder how much angst and loneliness would have been avoided?

I’ve had such fun with it, which is the main purpose for me.  It’s a creative record of what I’m up to, it reminds me to do something creative every day, and I plan to make it into a book after a year, with all of your comments and encouragement (which I LOVE) included.  It’s so funny that at first I struggled to come up with two posts a week and now I am posting every day and scheduling them in advance because I have so much to say.  I have already written future posts about creative storage, about our house renovation, about this new class I’m taking, about clearing out clutter (yes, again), about intuition, about pets, and so much more.

Thank you all so much for coming with me on this journey!

  1. Congrats & happy anniversary!

I am so glad you opened up your life to all of us. In part, it reminds me of so many things that have passed and become commonplace – my kids for one. But also because it has inspired me to start doing the same.

Thanks for sharing your pictures and thoughts!
