Now You self-portraiture wrap-up

Butterfly on shoulder

I didn’t take this one of myself but I love it all the same. It’s rare to have a nice picture of myself.

The six-week class, Now You, has ended (see earlier post here) and what an amazing journey it was.  Kristin and Meredith were excellent and encouraging guides into our foray of self-examination and critical eyes.  The women in the class formed a strong community immediately, resonating with each other’s words and hesitations and our limited ideas about what beauty consists of.

Beginning the class, I was open to the idea of doing the work, finding me in the frame no matter how hard it was.  What I was not anticipating was how everyone else would be willing to share their internal journey via our Flickr discussion group.  I am honored to be part of such a tender, courageous, and humble group of extraordinary women, facing their fears and baring their beautiful souls and stories.

Being part of this group has been inspiring.  Kristin and Meredith’s encouragement and generosity were inspirational.  I am so glad I took this journey.  (If you’re interested, a new class is beginning toward the end of August.)

Here are some images you’ve seen before as well as some new ones.  I encourage you to find yourself in the frame every once in a while, just to prove you were there too.  It’s surprisingly healing and really feels like you’re giving yourself a gift.  Do it for your kids if not for yourself so they will know who you once were.

The eyes have it

The eyes are the windows to the soul… my daughter and me looking straight into the lens.

These are some of my favorites from the class

  10. This is a delightful post. It was great to see all the photos because I have an idea of what you look like from your avitar, but this gives us so much more. Have a great day. And thanks for writing me about my misspelled URL. I did not fix it as I was over my head at the time. But it has made me to be much more careful since.
