Magic sparkles: a photo-heart connection post

It’s time for another Photo-Heart Connection! Haven’t done it before? You can learn more about how to find your Photo-Heart Connection here.  Kat talks about “making a commitment to connect art with heart” and invites anyone and everyone to add photography or artwork to the monthly connections.

It’s very much unlike me, but I didn’t take many photos in July besides kid ones.  This is one of a handful that I snapped on our cruise at the beginning of the month.  My absolute favorite few minutes of the entire month consisted of just me and the wide expanse of water as I sat alone on our cabin’s balcony and marveled at how the sun made tiny twinkling sparkles on the water’s surface that were gone just as quickly as they appeared.

It was a moment of pure understanding.  Understanding our transience.  Understanding our insignificance, and yet also knowing that there is magic and pure love that is unseen to us that gave us life and sustains us.  Understanding what peacefulness feels like.

seablue lee said it —the water, the edge of the ship makes a perfect photo.

I’ve never taken a cruise —afraid I’ll get sea sick and eat too much (unless I’m too seasick to eat.) But I understand the best way to avoid seasickness is to watch the water, so you see the movement of the ship instead of just feel it.

By spending quiet moments on deck, you are accomplishing several things at the same time.

Thanks, CJ. I was surprised how the food changed this time. It wasn’t like it used to be with midnight buffets and unlimited food. Of course, one could still eat too much, but food is not the focus it once was on cruises. Perhaps a trip to the ocean or a lake cabin would achieve that same wonder.

Your words resonate with me, both about the sparkles, and the wonder of life that we can easily recognize when we are alone and still.
So glad your trip was wonderful.

Yes, it’s that stillness again that you speak of pursuing, Cheryl. With that intention daily, I am finding it more and more. For this photo to happen, I had to really work to get my daughter to go to “cruise camp” and to have a few minutes alone on the balcony. 🙂

Beautiful water image, so nicely framed by the ship. Such a happy PHC!

All that beautiful, endless water, and the edge of the ship for context. Lovely! The ocean speaks to my heart that way, too.

Ahhhhhh….you’ve captured and expressed the exact reason why cruising is my favorite way to visit the world. Gazing upon the open waters makes me realize how small we truly are in the great scheme of things. Gorgeous capture and meaningful thoughts here. Visiting via PHC.

  9. I’ve never been on a cruise, but I can picture the scene perfectly, because you describe it so well. I’ve been dazzled similarly by the rainbow spectra cast by hoarfrost. After a very cold night, perfectly formed ice crystals catch the early sun, and their colors shift with every step you take. They also flash on and off as you move, but they don’t move themselves, so you can slow it down as much as you want to really appreciate the beauty. I’ve tried to photograph them, and I can’t ever capture it adequately. The memory of this sight is tied together in my mind with sounds and feelings – the crunch they make with each step – louder than it should be because snow dampens all background noise, and the feeling of ice forming inside my nose with each indrawn breath, on really cold mornings.
