Photo-heart connection: it’s all in your perspective

“We don’t see the things the way they are. We see things the way WE are.” ~ The Talmud

I always enjoy being part of Kat’s Photo-Heart Connection and visiting the other participants’ blogs.  Haven’t done it before? You can learn more about how to find your Photo-Heart Connection here.sunrise

Mr B. and I recently spent a few days together in New Orleans.  (Here is a recent post about needing that reconnection time after almost a year of being very busy.) We talked and talked and talked (with lots of amazing food and jazz thrown in) about work, our daughter, our interests, our friends, our goals.  And we came home more in love with each other and more appreciative of each other than we have been in a while.

Throughout our entire few days in New Orleans, the weather was rainy.  It was only upon waking at some ungodly hour to get to the airport on our final day that the sun emerged.  The photo above is of the sunrise from our hotel room window.

I’ve thought since we have been home that we weren’t so far apart as I previously thought we were.  Communication IS very important, and updating Mr. B about all my latest classes and interests and frustrations was very helpful, but he has been grounded and strong for me no matter what.  Similar to finding flaws in the rainy weather, my own perspective was focused on what was lacking rather than what was abundant.  I feel deeply grateful to be spending my life with someone who loves me entirely for myself.

What an amazing gift, to be loved for being yourself. It sounds like a wonderful weekend away, even without the sun there every day. Thanks for sharing in the Photo-Heart Connection, and sorry for my delay in coming by. I’m catching up on June along with July!

You know, I think you reminded me of this before, Sarah… how marriage work always benefits our children too. Thank you for helping me yet again to feel good about it.

“…my own perspective was focused on what was lacking rather than what was abundant”…

This is something I fight with on a regular basis, that perspective of looking at the flaws. It is inspiring to me that you and your husband were able to take this time and enjoy each other and share your stories together. Such a beautiful way to see the abundance in your own relationship.
