Defining what we love

Pinterest montageI am just beginning a home style makeover.  Deep breath.  When I looked around recently at our home, I realized that it’s very… brown.  We have been playing it so safe that there is very little of our own personality in our home.  Homes change over time as we change, of course.  When we were designing our new home a year or so ago, I chose the most basic, neutral colors possible.  So now I am trying to determine what it is I love and I’m finding that it takes work and time.

I am reading a book called SoulSpace: Transform Your Home, Transform Your Life — Creating a Home That Is Free of Clutter, Full of Beauty, and Inspired by You by Xorin Balbes, which is simply amazing.  It’s all about how your home should reflect and celebrate you and how you make sense of the world. I’m only just in the beginning stages of his 8 steps (ASSESS), so I’ll tell you more about this book as I progress, I’m sure.

My incredible sister-in-law is an interior designer and she is guiding me in my “lighten and brighten” work.  She recommended a bunch of fabric websites, home decor stores, etc.  I am pinning like crazy, peeps (see random pins above).  In addition to having a personal Pinterest party on a secret board, I’m trying to identify my own personal style.  This site is helping because it’s all about how to define it.  I got this from there:

Style Words

I chose relaxing, comfortable, artsy, textured, calm, uncluttered, and warm.

What would you say your style words are? Does your home reflect that?
