Week 2 kindness challenge: love books package

100 acts of kindness week 2The Week 2 challenge on Toddler Approved‘s month-long kindness project is to send a love books care package.  (They have a book giveaway too so check it out.)  Kim and Amanda of The Educators’ Spin On It: Parenting with Purpose are challenging us to perform an act of kindness that helps children learn to read and to love books!  This act can be as simple as giving a book to a friend, leaving a book,  or donating books.  They encourage you to take part in the International Book Giving Day on February 14.

This was an excellent opportunity to send some of our Valentine’s Day books that we have outgrown to a friend’s very young son who is going through treatment for a rare cancer right now.  I made a care package for him and his older brother that also included some fun toys… buzz whistles, pencils, wristbands, etc.

Of course, knowing little ones, they’ll probably think that the best part is the gift shred!

If you’d like to help find a cure for rare cancers, including all pediatric cancers, please visit Cycle For Survival and search for “A Wheel Cure,” my friend’s team.

As a Blurb.com affiliate, I feel I’d be remiss if I didn’t let you know that from now through 2/14 you can save 20% on your entire book order with code MYBOOKLOVE.  Maybe a Valentine’s Day book filled with favorite moments for someone special?

Wonderful idea to share those outgrown books! Love that you picked a Valentine theme! I didn’t know Feb 14 was National Book Giving Day. I’ll have to think about that and see what I can come up with!
